What’s the matter with genetically modified foods?

Genetically modified foods are foods that have been chemically altered to make a product “better.” For example, a tomato may be genetically engineered to produce a longer lasting, plumper one. Genetically modified foods have become a major concern in the modern era. Many environmentalists, religious societies, and scientists have discussed the issue and strongly believe genetically modified food is unhealthy and therefore, should be banned. However, there are many positive sides to producing these food. For one, a food which is genetically modified is better able to withstand cold condition and pests. This allows the farmers to meet the demands of a growing population. A problem that troubles those against genetically modified food is the off putting fact that many of us are allergic to certain elements of different foods. While this is usually not a huge problem, there have been an exceeding number of cases where a child has been surprised by an allergic reaction due to an unknown gene, that they are allergic to, chemically engineered into their food. Another health issue related to genetically modified foods is the fact that there are myriad unknown side effects that are probably associated with the mix of genes found in certain modified products. In conclusion whether we like it or not, each of us has eaten a genetically modified food purposely or unpurposely and will continue to enjoy the benefits of these foods. Is it worth it however, to risk ourselves  in order to produce “perfect” foods? Please reply below by leaving a comment!
