What dessert I made tonight

Tonight, I decided to give cupcakes a second chance. I found I delicious recipe online, http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/529292/salted-peanut-and-chocolate-cupcakes. It was very tasty and moist. I decided to create my own chocolate icing, as I enjoy icings which include more than just sugar, butter, and vanilla.

My gorgeous chocolate icing:

50g softened butter

4tbs whipping cream, marscapone and cream cheese

1/2 cup of powdered sugar

1/2 cup cocoa powder

4tbs melted golden syrup

1 tsp salt

Whip together using an electric mixer for a luxurious chocolate icing!Photo on 2013-06-01 at 22.55

Bitchin’ Kitchen?

One of the newest food network stars, Nadia G, has many questioning whether her personality is false and food is dull, or she truly has a television chef talent. Originally Nadia made frequent web shows exhibiting her cooking/ baking skills, and spicy character. It was only recently, that she was given a show on The Food Network, Bitchin’ Kitchen.

So far, my impressions of the chef are not the best. The fact that many of her foods are very average, not appealing, and her outrageous personality seems over blown seems to leave watchers unamused, very quickly. Thus, it is no surprise to hear that others have similar opinions.

I’d love to hear if any of her recipes have been attempted and tasted. Please let me know what you think of Bitchin’ Kitchen and, if you have made any of her recipes, how they turned out!

Super foods!

According to http://www.joybauer.com/photo-gallery/top-10-superfoods.aspx, there are ten amazing super foods that will enhance our lifestyle and health. Sounds good to me!

1. Blueberries, for all those lacking in long or short term memory, this is your cure. Eat as many as possible for their natural antioxidants and vitamins.

2. Sardines, not a personal favorite, however they carry large portions of calcium, omega 3, and protein. Might be worth scarfing down a few now and then for that extra dosage.

3. Spinach, rather bland so easily incorporated into many dishes, seems to do miracles for the body. It keeps bones strong, protects eyes from the sun, and is a source of vitamin K plus much, much more. Try adding spinach to pesto, it will blend right in and will add important vitamins and minerals.

4. Pistachios offer a delicious source of protein, fibre, and are very simply incorporated into many dishes. Try adding pistachois to any breakfast cereal, oatmeal, or ice cream for an exciting, healthy crunch.

5. Dark chocolate, who would have known your dessert was actually good for you? Dark chocolate, as many of us know, boosts your mood and is good for blood flow and packed with antioxidants. If it doesn’t bother you, make dark chocolate chip cookies, or dark chocolate covered strawberries for a healthier treat.

6. Red bell peppers are filled with vitamin c, contain antioxidants, and are a low calorie food choice. They can be added to any salad, or rather dipped in hummus for a snack.

7. Beans are great for vegetarians, contain protein and fibre. They also help you stay fuller for longer.

8. Egg whites are in absolutely everything! Egg whites are a low in calories, fat free, protein packed health food. They can help to keep bones strong and can be used for egg white omelettes or baked goods.

9. Oats help lower cholesterol and keep sugar levels down.

10. Pumpkin is my absolute favourite super food. It can be found creamed or whole, and can be used to make pumpkin bread; which is perhaps the greatest bread in the world! Pumpkin, besides being delectable, is filled with nutrients that are beneficial for your eyes skin and much more. It also contains antioxidants and vitamins.

Above are ten super foods that will improve your level of health and set your taste buds tingling. There is no shame in eating these foods or regrets, so hurry up and dig in!

What’s the matter with genetically modified foods?

Genetically modified foods are foods that have been chemically altered to make a product “better.” For example, a tomato may be genetically engineered to produce a longer lasting, plumper one. Genetically modified foods have become a major concern in the modern era. Many environmentalists, religious societies, and scientists have discussed the issue and strongly believe genetically modified food is unhealthy and therefore, should be banned. However, there are many positive sides to producing these food. For one, a food which is genetically modified is better able to withstand cold condition and pests. This allows the farmers to meet the demands of a growing population. A problem that troubles those against genetically modified food is the off putting fact that many of us are allergic to certain elements of different foods. While this is usually not a huge problem, there have been an exceeding number of cases where a child has been surprised by an allergic reaction due to an unknown gene, that they are allergic to, chemically engineered into their food. Another health issue related to genetically modified foods is the fact that there are myriad unknown side effects that are probably associated with the mix of genes found in certain modified products. In conclusion whether we like it or not, each of us has eaten a genetically modified food purposely or unpurposely and will continue to enjoy the benefits of these foods. Is it worth it however, to risk ourselves  in order to produce “perfect” foods? Please reply below by leaving a comment!

My Top Three Restaurants In London

I must admit I am not much of a pizza lover, but Pizza East ranks as one of my top three restaurants in London. Pizza East continues to surprise me with their constantly updated menu and outstanding desserts to end the meal. If you happen upon one of the Pizza East restaurants I would definitely advise ordering:

1. The Garlic Bread. I have never tasted a bread so soft and flavourful. The garlic is present, although not overpowering, and the bread is perfectly portioned.

2. ANYONE OF THE PIZZAS. Trust me, they are all amazing.

3. The Panna Cotta. A sweet and simply dessert with honey comb chunks sprinkled throughout adding an effortless, yet effective finish.

Another top three, Ottolenghi. Ottolenghi serves interesting, flavourful, outstanding dishes which will awaken your taste buds and leave you with no choice but to return again, and again, and again. As you enter the restaurant, massive salads and mains surround you while the joint tables are inviting and clean. What do joint tables mean; you always leave with a new friend. All in all the food and desserts are fantastic, the atmosphere is energetic, and you will never leave unsatisfied. My recommendations:

1. Butternut squash salad. I get it every time!

2. The corn bread. I have never tasted corn bread like this before! The subtle spice mixed with pieces of corn is delectable.

3. The white chocolate, raspberry cheesecake tart. Everyone loves it.

The final restaurant in my top three is Busaba Eathai. Busaba is a modern thai restaurants with locations all over London. They serve inexpensive dishes in a classy environment. The food has never failed to meet expectations and the communal tables plus light incense add to the open atmosphere. Dishes I would strongly recommend:

1.The Salmon and green mango salad. Very light and presented beautifully.

2. For something spicy, chicken butternut squash curry. The spices work well together and compliment the chicken and squash perfectly. Just remember to get rice as well!

3. Pad Thai Jay is a very tasty pad thai with tofu, lime and other traditional thai flavours.

Please tell me what you ordered and what you thought about the restaurants by commenting! Bon Appetite!
